Learn to Play: Amazing Grace [Acoustic Dub] by Josh Wilson

A few people on YouTube have been asking about tabs for this version of Amazing Grace by Josh Wilson. This post is to tackle that song and show everyone how I play it.



For starters, I don't play it exactly the way Wilson does. Wilson uses an open-D tuning, that is tuned down 1/2 step.

Tuning

Instead, I just use drop-D, tuned down one half step. So you end up with, Db - Ab - Db - Gb - Bb - Eb --

Gear

For this particular cover, I used a Taylor Auditorium acoustic guitar plugged into my Line 6 Spider III with a little bit of delay. That's pretty much it.

Intro and Opening Verse

For a little bit of preface, this tab is what I would consider a "loose" translation, meaning that because of the quick strumming pattern, I haven't tabbed out every single note. It's meant to give you the basic notes and concept behind what you're playing.

You're responsible for getting the correct timing and strumming pattern down.

Use the video (posted below and above) to get the timing and strumming pattern down. It should feel pretty natural once you understand the beat and tempo of the song. Try to think of a U2 kind of vibe.

Chorus

The chorus doesn't change much, but now you'll be playing more of a chord pattern, with the lead melody still being maintained.

Bridge -- Part I

The bridge is where things start to get a lot trickier. You'll go into the first part of the bridge with is a rhythmic pattern on the lower strings. You'll then go back to the verse riff before going into the second part of the bridge.
