All guitar modifications are inherently imperfect, and unexpected issues can crop up. Please do your own research and/or consult help from a local guitar repair shop if you aren't sure about the parts you want to install. You can also feel free to ask questions in the comments section below.
Pickup Suggestions for the Ibanez RG Series
Compatibility Notes: The Fishman Fluence humbuckers are an active set, meaning they need a 9V battery to be installed into the compartment of the guitar to operate. This could potentially complicate the installation process, depending on the type of guitar you're modifying.
Keep in mind that the Ibanez RG series spans a very wide price range. Most of the RG electrics in the higher pricing tiers ($1000 and higher), already have a really nice set of pickups. If you're going to upgrade an Ibanez RG, aim for the models in the $400 to $700 price range. If you have questions, feel free to get in touch via the comments section below.
Fishman Fluence Matt Heafy Signature Humbuckers
These are the pickups I have installed in my 2005 PRS CE 24, and they sound absolutely fantastic. They're modern and very aggressive, but can also be subtle and nuanced, with very sweetened clean tones.
Important note: Just a reminder that these pickups are active and require a 9V battery. Please see compatibility notes above.
Seymour Duncan Mark Holcomb Humbuckers
Mark Holcomb's signature humbucker set is designed to handle a lot of gain while maintaining note clarity, given his technical and quick-paced playing style. You'll also get more lows and punch, good for a balance of lead and percussive power chords.
Seymour Duncan Invaders
The Invaders are my passive humbucker of choice, and a good fit for the speedy and modern Ibanez RG profile. They aren't as "tight" or crisp as the Fluence set, but you can reign that in with some EQ tinkering. I'd still far prefer the Fluence, but these are a reliable rock/metal pickup, at a decent price.
