QUICK HIT: How much does Fender Play cost? A simple breakdown of the platform's cost and pricing model.
Since starting back in 2017, Fender Play has built a reputation for quickly-delivering online guitar lessons that are song and (to an extent) recreation-focused. Though I don't formally recommend their program, a lot of folks have used and enjoyed Fender Play's platform, largely for its beginner-focused approach. In this article I'm simply giving you a rundown of pricing to answer the question: How much does Fender Play cost?
NOTE: You can go here to checkout some of the online guitar lessons that I do recommend.
Price Change
In 2018 Fender Play changed their pricing model, dropping both the monthly membership cost and the annual yearly price considerably. The cut was warranted, as I argued in my Fender Play review that the program was over-priced, given the limited amount of content it provided.
However, in 2022 they bumped the price back up to the original $19.99 per month that I had said was too expensive given their content. Though, to be fair, their content has expanded a lot since then.
Here's a breakdown of the current Fender Play cost of a monthly and yearly membership, as of October 2022.:
- Basic Membership (Fender Connect): Free (required for a free trial)
- Monthly Membership: $19.99 (billed monthly)
- Yearly Membership: $12.50 (billed annually)
Note that with the annual membership, Fender offers a 10 percent discount off all Fender gear, namely guitars and amps.
Does Fender Play offer a refund?
No. All sales are final with Fender Play, as their support page states clearly that they do not offer any kind of refund for this particular platform. This is in stark contrast to programs like Guitar Tricks that offer a 60-day money-back guarantee.

Fender does not grant refunds for Play subscriptions.
Here's their current pricing model which shows the monthly and annual rates for Fender Play membership:

The Fender Play pricing model is fairly basic, offering full memberships (no tiers) for a monthly and yearly price.
What about Fender Play's promotional pricing?
Fender Play does do a handful of promotional offers, which seem to range from about 50 percent off to 10 percent. At the time of writing this article, they also had a Groupon offer that dropped the price of their membership from $89 to $69.

The easiest way to stay up-to-date on Fender Play promos is to jump onto their mailing list, which you can easily sign up for with a Fender Connect account.

Does Fender Play offer a Free Trial?
Like Guitar Tricks, Fender Play offers a 14 day free trial which is integrated into new Fender Connect accounts, unless of course you go straight to a paid membership. When I signed up to review the program, they did require a credit card. However, I'm not sure if that's still the case.

Clicking on any free trial button takes you directly to a Fender Connect signup page.
Conclusion & Additional Questions
Again, I'm not a fan of Fender Play's shotgun approach to teaching guitar. It seems thin and low on substance. However, the price drop does help their value and they've always been great with video production quality. Update your article. They’re charging literally double now. Absurd.
To be fair, they’re on par with Guitar Tricks and JamPlay. But yeah, still.
