How much does the Gibson SG Standard Cost?
Currently $1,799.00
There are several different variations of the Gibson SG Standard, but the core model is currently retailing at $1,799.00 in most markets. Used versions can be had for pretty steep discounts, around 40 percent in some cases.

This is a price guide for the Gibson SG Standard, the non '61 version. We call it the "Core" model as it's a standard bearer for the SG line up. Note that we are also not including color variations and instead focusing on the Heritage Cherry version, which is the same price as the black one.
Sweetwater is typically the best measuring stick for electric guitar retail, which we also see mirrored in other major sites like Musician's Friend and Guitar Center.
As mentioned in the above box, used options come way down in price. We've seen as much as 50 percent, just because there are a lot of Gibson SG Standards on the market. As always, it's important to stay frosty when buying used and carefully read product descriptions and disclaimers.
Also pay attention to the year a product was manufactured.
But for buying new, we'll cover pricing from multiple vendors for easy comparison.

Gibson SG Standard Price from Multiple Vendors
Again, be careful not to get different variations of the Standard mixed up. The '61 and Maestro versions are more expensive, but look similar at a quick glance. Note that these prices are live and consistently updated for each vendor. Though it is possible that systems lag or that pricing could change depending on a number of factors.

This will email you if you sign up to be notified for a particular price (it does not put you on our mailing list). But again, if you aren't set on buying new, you're likely to get a much bigger discount in the used markets. Though there are discounts depending on the retailer. Aim for around 15 percent off.

Other Buying Options
As mentioned, buying used is a valid approach. You can look at the following markets for used options:
- eBay
- Reverb
If you decide to buy used, hold out for a significant discount. With a popular guitar like the Gibson SG, you'll see the market get saturated, which drives down the used prices as inventory rises.
Also note that not all retailers carry Gibson guitars.
The most notable of those not carrying Gibson would be Amazon, while places like SamAsh and ZZounds tend to be hit or miss.
The big names - Sweetwater, Guitar Center, and Musician's Friend - all have a pretty full inventory of Gibson electrics.
Cheaper Alternatives
The Gibson SG Standard tribute is cheaper than the core SG Standard.
We usually see the Tribute roughly $500 below whatever the Standard costs, which is a pretty steep discount.
You can also look at the Epiphone SG Standard, which I've included in the table below. Obviously these are much cheaper than the Gibson versions, though still good guitars if you're looking to get out of the higher price ranges.
Conclusion
To summarize, you have the following three options:
- New or used Gibson SG Standard
- New or used Gibson SG Tribute
- New or used Epiphone SG Standard
Keep an eye on the prices and use this page to get updated numbers. Considering Gibson's typical price point, the SG Standard is a fantastic deal, and one of the cheapest ways to get your hands on the Gibson brand name.
