How much does the Martin D-42 Cost?
ERROR
The Martin D-42 is a high-end acoustic guitar that currently retails for ERROR on Sweetwater. Used options are surprisingly common and typically come in with a 20-30 percent discount depending on the year model.

The Martin D series spans a wide price range, all the way down to the D-10 Road models, most of which retail under $1000. Once you get into the D-40s you're in the upper echelon of Martin acoustics, many of which are over $5000. The D-42 in particular is one of the more popular models in this quality tier, similar to the Martin D-45.
On this page we've put together several pricing resources for the Martin D-42, primarily a table that pulls live pricing from multiple vendors.
Acoustic guitars of such high quality don't tend to change a lot in price, but we've provided a price alert sign up and price history tracker, all the same.

Martin D-42 Price from Multiple Vendors
We pull prices from the vendors we have agreements with. Guitar Center and Musician's Friend are the two we can't pull from (as of yet), but they tend to follow Sweetwater pricing pretty closely. Sweetwater's price is usually a good indicator of what you'll see among other big box places. Reverb and eBay - used markets - will of course be lower, but Sweetwater is a good barometer.
Note that we've included pricing for the Modern Deluxe version of the D-42, which is a bit nicer and more expensive.

Martin D-42 Amazon Price
We can't track price history for Amazon products, which nixes the price alert as well. However, you can see all the D-42 listings Amazon has here, including whatever used options might be available (usually not many on Amazon).
Price Alert Sign Up
Keep in mind, guitars like the D-42 don't tend to drop in price. High-end guitars are a lot steadier in terms of their retail, while cheaper guitars are more likely to fluctuate. Still, you can put in a price and see if you get lucky. It'll send you an email if and when the D-42 reaches that price.

Note that the graph below follows the lowest price among the listed vendors, with the exception of Amazon. If there is only one bullet point, it just means the price hasn't changed recently.

Conclusion
Note that when you're looking at used options, the year model will have an impact on the price. Make sure you figure that out before you buy. Guitars tend to dip in price after they're released. However, if they get enough years behind them, they become more of a collectible and will increase in value.
If you're buying used for a lower price, aim for a D-42 model released in the last 10 years.
For those buying new, Sweetwater is probably your best bet.
They'll provide support from a real person and will even do some setup of your guitar before sending it your way.
