Made a note that the Yousician free trial is currently listed at 30 days, since it has been listed as both seven and 14 days in the past. Also updated free trial screenshot.
Yousician's platform teaches you differently than the traditional video or text-based guitar course.
When you buy a subscription you're subscribing to the Yousician application and not just the website. This means that you get access to a downloadable application that plays more like a video game than an educational course.
If you're curious about how all this works, you can checkout Bobby's full Yousician review for all the details.
But, in this article, we're only going to cover the Yousician cost of membership and their current pricing model.
How much does Yousician cost?
Yousician has three different pricing tiers offering various levels of access to content within their downloadable application. After the free trial subscription runs out (which is 30 days) you have four different options:
- Monthly Premium: $19.99
- Yearly Premium: $119.99 ($9.99 per month)
- Monthly Premium Plus: $29.99
- Yearly Premium Plus: $179.99 ($14.99 per month)

Premium VS Premium Plus
The primary difference between the Premium and Premium Plus memberships is in the access you have to song lessons. For example, with a Premium Plus membership you can learn songs by popular artists like Ed Sheeran, John Mayer and a ton of others that are regularly updated and added to.
With the (non-plus) Premium plan, you have access to songs but, not from popular artists. The song material is far more generic.
When we went to resubscribe (we had already subscribed to review Yousician), here's a look at the pricing options displayed on the upgrade screen (which you have to be logged in to see):

The pricing model from within our Yousician account. It's for "resubscribing" (since we have already subscribed) but the pricing is the same as it would be for brand new subscribers.
We believe that the Premium Plus plan also gives you access to all instruments in the Yousician program, per the following entry in their help section:

The Premium Plus Yousician plans give you access to the additional popular songs and all the instruments.
Are their any hidden fees or unexpected bill increases?
In our experience, no.
To write our Yousician review, we signed up for the monthly premium plan for $19.99 and when we got our invoice, it was for $19.99. Here's a screen shot of the invoice in our email account, just for proof:

We were billed for the exact signup cost.
Overall, Yousician does a great job of making it easy to sign up, pay for, and cancel your subscription. Throughout the process, we were pretty surprised at how simple and straightforward everything was. It's also just nice to have a bill for exactly what you expected to pay.
What about Yousician promotional pricing?
We've only been on Yousician's mailing list for a little over two months now, which didn't overlap at all with the holiday season. During that time we haven't seen anything come through in the way of promotional pricing. They're also not quick to divulge that kind of information over email (we've asked).
When we can get wind of any coupons or promotional offers that are regularly offered by Yousician, we'll update this article and mention them here.
If you know of any or have experience getting a promotional price, let us know in the comments section.
Does Yousician offer a Free Trial?
Yes.
Yousician will let you try a Premium membership for seven days before having to pay. At that point, you have the option to pay and keep your premium account or upgrade to the Premium Plus account.

Yousician offers a 7-day free trial to new users.
You'll have to choose a single instrument (since only the Premium Plus version gives you access to all the instruments) but from their you'll have access to all of the content you would in a paid Premium membership
Other Yousician Resources
Yousician is a younger program in the online music education world, having started much more recently than other programs we've covered like Guitar Tricks and JamPlay. But they're a solid resource and a fun spin on the traditional method of learning music online, especially helpful for beginners or those who just want to dabble in one, or perhaps multiple instruments.
Here are a couple more resources we've published related to Yousician:

20 – 30$ just seems a bit greedy to me, even Netflix doesn’t cost that much, there are professional online teachers out there that offer tons and tons of very detailed videos and online sessions that don’t even cost that much
I wouldn’t necessarily say that Yousician is a great value, but $20-$30 is a pretty common price point for these month-by-month membership sites. $20 is the most typical price we see.
mostly agree, but someone like me that plays both bass and guitar would have to pay 30$ which is higher than any other currently I’ve seen,
but still, I’m just wondering what are you really getting for your money, sure programming the program costs and there must be some coda to pay as well, but if they just sold the program for 60 or even 100$ that should be just fine paying for it, I mean many other programs are one time sold and then if relevant they could sell DLC’s and people could judge for themself if the DLC contained enough songs that appealed to them, it’s not like they offer online private tutoring or songs need to be constants monitored like an online game and even most online games are 60$ one time cost and they supply servers, monitors chat and so on,
I’m not saying Yousician can’t use the business model they are using and I’m not saying that I don’t find the other companies selling similar programs on the same business model aren’t as great, I’m just picking on Yousician because they are the most expensive, and I’m just wondering my they couldn’t use the same business model as for instant Rocksmith
Michael – I agree. I think Yousician would be a better value if it sold its software for a one-time fee. Though to be fair, a lot of companies are moving to member-based software pricing (i.e. Office 365), simply because it nets them more money.
Thanks for this enlightening article on Yousician. I am currently trying it out on my free trial. Looking to get the Premium plus because I will use the ukulele and guitar lessons. My 7-year-old daughter is learning how to play the ukulele with me. It’s a great way to pick up a new hobby during quarantine!
Thanks for sharing, Theresa. Yousician can be a great fit for that age range, and they do have a lot of good Ukulele content. Best of luck to you all!
