A little bit
About Guitar Chalk
Guitar Chalk is an online magazine that was started in 2012 by Bobby, a long-time musician, guitar teacher and writer. Today, we're committed to creating helpful and practical resources for guitar players, students and teachers of the instrument. Our content is thorough, high-quality and focused on answering questions relating to guitar gear, lessons, music production and tone-related best practices.
We care about the quality of what we publish, both in terms of its accuracy, presentation, usefulness and correctness. Bobby and everyone else who contributes articles and lessons are actually passionate about the guitar and about music. Moreover, all contributors are well-studied, professional musicians who are qualified to speak on the subjects about which they're writing.
Refer to the following section for more information about the minds behind Guitar Chalk's content.
Writers, Contributors and Editors
Whether producing written content or serving as a consultant for a particular article, all of these folks have helped established the Guitar Chalk knowledge base. In addition to their name, we've also listed how they're involved with the guitar and/or the music industry. Their professional contributions have been invaluable.
Founder and Editor
Bobby graduated from Bridgewater College (a long stinkin' time ago) with a degree in computer science, while having played guitar since his ninth birthday. Since then, he has worked to develop guitar and music-related content with a number of large companies and publications, including the following:
Bobby lives in the Commonwealth of Virginia with his wife, four kids and a goldfish named Rusty.
Mark is a freelance jazz guitarist from Virginia and a faculty member at Eastern Mennonite University where he teaches guitar, jazz improv, music theory and directs the university jazz ensemble.
He has also studied with the likes of Andrew York and Tim Reynolds.
Linda Taylor is the guitarist and composer from ABC’s “Whose Line Is It Anyway?”
She has toured and recorded with Art Garfunkel, Maia Sharp, Terri Lyne Carrington, Tracy Chapman and many more. Linda still keeps an active YouTube channel with a ton of great resources.
Michael Palmisano is a GIT graduate and the creator of PRS-sponsored Guitargate.com, a leading guitar education community with 80k+ students to date.
He's also responsible for authoring one of the most popular guitar courses on the Udemy platform.
Steve Blundon spent the 1990s working in a popular local music shop refining his guitar setup skills, managing sales, actively gigging, and teaching as many as 60 students per week. In 2000, he opened his own store which he ran successfully for 15 years. He still maintains a healthy list of guitar service clients and spends his time developing music-related websites, primarily GuitarNiche.com.
Editor and Product Researcher
Millie Roark has a background in journalism, quality control and freelance copy editing. She researches products, proof reads and fact-checks much of the content on Guitar Chalk.
She's the longest-serving staff member and has also contributed a handful of original articles.
Market and Product Researcher
Danielle graduated from James Madison University with a degree in public health education after spending two years doing competitive show choir in high school.
She and Bobby got married in 2011.
These days, when not wrangling their four kids, Danielle does product/market research and page formatting for Guitar Chalk.
