This is my roundup of the best 7-string guitars from Schecter, including my top pick from the bunch. Schecter is a brand that we trust, and that I've personally tested, covering several of their models. These electrics are the best value options, given their quality levels and cost, giving you the highest possible level of quality at the lowest possible price. We'll do a comparison table first, then individual review cards for each guitar.

1. Schecter Banshee Mach-7

BEST FOR: Low tunings, metal, modern rock, sustain, intermediate to advanced players.

- Sustainiac and Lundgren pickup combination is nothing but heavy.
- Maple top looks great and gives it a big quality boost.
- Fretboard feels good even with the added string.
- Floyd Rose adds some appeal for lead styles.
- Small complaint, but I'm really not a fan of the roman numeral fretboard inlays.
The aggression you get from this guitar is off the charts, and it's especially conducive to heavier styles that work in a lot of lead guitar. If the flamed top appeals to you, the aesthetics are a big win as well. There aren't really any weak spots with this one, give the musical genre we're targeting.
2. Schecter C-7 SLS Evil Twin

BEST FOR: Anyone wanting the best pickups with a rhythm focus, and surprisingly articulate clean tones.

- I think Fishman Fluence pickups are the best money can buy, especially for 7-string styles, metal, and modern rock.
- Slim neck design feels really quick.
- A really unique and well thought out blend of tonewood with five total.
- Very deep cutaway gives you access to every fret without even having to angle your hand.
- Again with the Roman numerals.
A lot of the same rationale that I mentioned for the Mach-7 applies here as well. This is perhaps a more desirable tonewood arrangement, along with the Fishman Fluence pickups that will give you a very articulate clean tone, along with a heavy distorted tone. This is a great example of why Schecter guitars are extremely underrated.
3. Schecter Hellraiser C-7

BEST FOR: Rhythmic/percussive styles, low tunings, metal, and intermediate to pro level players.

- Getting down into a lower price range if you're looking for something more budget friendly.
- Heavy tone, given the all-Mahogany construction.
- Floyd Rose 1000
- EMG/Sustainiac combo
- Mahogany is par for the course, but I was spoiled by the Evil Twin's arrangement of five different tonewoods.
It's not as "remarkable" as the others on this list, but the Hellraiser is a long-time Schecter best seller, and just a solid all-around 7-string that still gives us the pickup arrangement and bridge hardware that we're looking for.
4. Schecter Reaper-7

BEST FOR: Budgets, looks, anti-roman numeral enthusiasts, and technical metal styles.

- Great price point
- From an aesthetics perspective, it's my top pick from this list
- Extra jumbo frets and angled scale length are fantastic for more technical styles
- Another unique tonewood combination
- Schecter cuts cost here by doing an in-house/stock(ish) humbucker set. We'd prefer the EMGs, Sustainiac, or Fluence sets, but money talks.
How does the Reaper look like the most expensive guitar on this list, when it's actually the cheapest? I really don't know. But I love this guitar, especially for the jumbo frets and angled scale length. You might need (want) a pickup swap here, but it's a great guitar out of the box, as well.
Our Methodology
The guitars we recommend are based primarily on first-hand experience, thorough research, and simply sticking to brands that are trustworthy and consistently produce high-quality electric guitars. We avoid brands and models that we do not know anything about, or at least those that we can't verify with others who have used them.
For lists like this, we narrow in on the features at hand - 7-string models, in this case - then focus on getting the highest possible quality at the lowest possible price.
If you have questions about our methodology, we want you to ask about it.
This entire site is run by real musicians and guitar players who actually care about this topic. We don't always get it right, but we try.
What are some other good 7-string brands?
For 7-string guitars, the only other brand I'd go with is Ibanez (maybe Carvin). I'm a fan of the Korn signature models, but Ibanez has a bunch of 7-strings that are really solid, and a wide price range to work with. If you decide to abandon Schecter, look in their direction.
Which pickups are the best from this list?
I like the Fishman Fluence pickups if I could choose, but EMG is a good look as well. Whatever brand you go with, I'd aim for an active set since a 7-string guitar is meant for a more modern and heavy metal playing style.
