Flowkey VS Simply Piano (Comparison)
Our pick: Flowkey
Though Simply Piano has some appeal to beginners and kids, we like the more sophisticated interface on Flowkey and what amounts to a more thorough learning experience. We also like the listening algorithm that waits for your notes and monitors your playing.
What are the differences between Flowkey VS Simply Piano? Which one is better?
Flowkey is less linear than Simply Piano in terms of it's learning path. It allows you to kind of jump around and make your own path as opposed to providing courses. Simply Piano does a better job of guiding you through content in a linear manner, better perhaps for kids or those with no prior experience.
However, Flowkey is an easier app to navigate, with songs and courses completely separated and a more intuitive interface. One thing we don't like about Simply Piano is that there are not as many advanced features within courses. In Simply Piano you can't isolate left and right hands nor can you turn off backing tracks.
There's also no metronome in learning songs mode.
When you think of Simply Piano, think of bare bones simplicity. It's just the basics.
While Flowkey isn't inundated with features, it is the more professional feeling app of the two. Flowkey is more adult like, while Simply Piano is more child like.
As we mentioned, Flowkey also listens to your notes and can be set to wait until it hears the note in question. You can also focus on single sections of songs.
Both apps have limited tempo settings (Yousician lets you set tempo wherever you want) which is disappointing.
In general, beginners will likely do better with Simply Piano, since it's an easy way to get your feet wet.
Flowkey is better for those that know a little more to begin with and want a more sophisticated, professional experience. However, it's important to also mention that both programs can work fine for a beginner or someone with a little experience.

Which one is better?
It wouldn't be fair for us to call one program "better" than the other. Though if we had to choose, we'd say Flowkey is a little easier to recommend because it's the more adult-like of the two interfaces.
Simply Piano can - at times - feel a bit cheap and underwhelming.
But it does give you the basics in a simple manner, which is what a lot of people want.
So our recommendation will depend on where you're at:
- Beginners looking for linear courses: Go with Simply Piano
- Beginners and intermediates looking for songs and advanced features: Go with Flowkey
Both are great programs with a lot to offer. It just depends on whether you want the more sophisticated higher-level program, or the beginners program that helps you along in a linear manner.
