GIBSON LES PAUL DIMENSIONS: A CONCISE OVERVIEW
Body Measurements: Length: 17.25" x Width: 13" x Depth: 2" - Overall length: 39.5"
When inquiring about Gibson Les Paul dimensions, the focus is typically on the body. In this overview, we'll also delve into the neck and pickup measurements. Remember, these dimensions are generally consistent but may slightly differ across various models.

The dimensions of a Gibson Les Paul can fluctuate slightly based on several factors. While we provide measurements here that will generally be accurate, keep in mind that the exact dimensions may change due to:
- The specific model or series of the Les Paul in question (Standard, Studio, etc.)
- Year of manufacture (vintage or older models may have unique specifications)
- Condition (whether the guitar is new or previously owned)
Our goal is to provide dimensions that are as accurate as possible, but it's essential to view these as approximations rather than precise numbers. They should be considered close estimates and not exact values. Our main reference will be the Gibson Les Paul Standard, but it's worth noting that most Gibson Les Paul models are comparable, often identical, in terms of dimensions and form. We'll address dimensions for the body, neck, and humbuckers.

Gibson Les Paul Body Dimensions
When examining Les Paul body sizes, there are four the essential dimensions to consider:
- Body length: 17.25"
- Body width: 13"
- Overall body depth: 2"
- Overall length: 39.5"
Neck Dimensions
Neck dimensions for guitars are generally described in terms of scale length and width at the nut, where the neck meets the headstock.
- Scale length: 24.75"
- Nut width: 1.695"
- Number of frets: 22 medium jumbo
Neck Shape and Curve
The shape and curvature of a Les Paul neck can vary. But the most common will be a slim tapered neck with a 12" radius.
- Neck profile: Rounded or Slim Taper
- Radius: 12"
Typical Humbucker Dimensions on a Les Paul
Almost all Les Pauls have two humbuckers at the bridge and neck position. There are a lot of measurements involved, so we'll simply use this diagram from Seymour Duncan for the Pearly Gates covered humbucker, which is the type that we'd see fit in a Gibson Les Paul.

Typical dimensions for a covered humbucker, like the ones found on a Gibson Les Paul. Image via Seymour Duncan
Here's a list of the measurements in the graphic:
- Screw to screw: 3.063"
- Cover length: 2.745"
- Cover width: 1.495"
- End to end (full): 3.315"
- Full height: 0.776"
These numbers will vary slightly, depending on the model and the pickup in question. But, generally speaking, humbuckers will always fit in a Gibson Les Paul, and will be sized close to the example we've used. Even then, this only matters if you're going to change the pickups, which probably isn't necessary for a guitar as nice as a Gibson Les Paul.

These dimensions are useful but they quite answer my question. Specifically I am looking for what the minimum clearance is for the full body depth of a Gibson Les Paul Custom in relation to a proper guitar case clearance. You show the body depth is 2” but I don’t believe that this figure accounts for the added space of the bridge, strings and other protruding objects on the top of the GLP. I am looking at a case gift for a friend’s GLP. The case I was considering has a depth clearance of 3.74” which I believe should be sufficient, but I’m looking for confirmation.
Hey Elvin. Should be 3-3.5 inches. So 3.74 should be plenty of space.
whenever you reporting the “size“ of a guitar, you should list the width of the upper bout, waste, lower bout, as well as the length of the body. The dimensions you have listed here are essentially useless for anyone who wants to try to copy the less Paul.
These dimensions are really useful for the More Paul though ;-)
The what?? I don’t follow.
